About This Course

Clean energy and energy efficiency are among the fastest-growing sectors in the American economy. Millions of jobs already exist across all 50 states—in solar and wind energy, building performance and weatherization, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, electrical trades, grid modernization, energy storage, and emerging fields like electric vehicle infrastructure. These jobs are growing at rates that far outpace the overall U.S. workforce, and employers across the country are actively looking for skilled workers to fill them.

So how do you get into these careers?

In this course we're going to talk about a pathway that you may not have considered—or maybe you’ve heard about it but aren’t sure how it actually works. It’s called Registered Apprenticeship, and it’s one of the most effective ways to launch a career in clean energy and energy efficiency. This is a self-paced, online course designed for students and job seekers is structured to move learners from awareness to action, starting with understanding apprenticeships, then exploring potential career pathways, and ultimately preparing them to apply and succeed in a program.

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

1.   Identify Clean Energy Careers — What careers exist in clean energy and energy efficiency, what the work actually looks like day to day, and where you might fit based on your interests, skills, and circumstances. 

2.   Explore Apprenticeships — What Registered Apprenticeship is, how it differs from other training pathways, why it has endured as a model for thousands of years, the concrete benefits it offers, and whether it’s a good match for your goals. 

3.   Understand Registered Apprenticeship Programs — The five essential components that make a program “Registered,” how training is structured, what to expect from your mentor, how different program types work, and how to evaluate program quality when comparing your options. 

4.   Find Your Entry Point — How to match yourself to the right occupation, navigate the application and interview process, build the soft skills employers look for, identify and overcome barriers with specific resources and support services, and create a personalized action plan with your first concrete steps.
