This course deals with some of the requirements to evaluate the structural aspects of a residential rooftop PV system before issuing a building permit. The course shows a three-phased approach to analyzing the compliance:
- Prescriptive process that works for many systems when criteria for the area have been determined
- Using a rafter span table for systems that don't meet the determined criteria
- Understanding when an engineered drawing of the system should be required
Upon completion, you should be able to verify that the spacing of array structural attachments are appropriate according to the racking manufacturer's specifications and that the quantity of the attachments distribute the weight of the system to avoid heavy point loads.
